At this point I will be looking at different film magazines as I haven't yet chosen the genre I will be looking at. This task will help me decide the most appropriate style of magazine from my front cover.
Since I have done my research I have come across many different Film magazines catering for different audiences. All the film magazines that I have come across help promote newly released films. Although the types of movies being promoted Depend on the type of magazine.
1) TOTALFILM. This is a UK based magazine that comes out 13 times a year. Each month TotalFilm provides a range of features, from giving us a six page interview with a actor or director in each issue of the magazine, to talking about future releases of movies.
2) EMPIRE. This is a magazine that is published monthly, its the biggest selling film magazine in the united kingdom and is also bing published in the states. they Also have annual Empire awards that a voted for by the readers of the magazine. This magazine reviews both mainstream films and art films. It nearly always has an advertisement for a latest mainstream movie coming out at that time.
3) PREMIERE. This is a American, New York Based Magazine. Premiere is released 10 times a year sold all over Canada, United States, Australia, Britain and France. Talks a lot about actors and there prominence in the Hollywood society.
4) AMERICAN CINEMATOGRAPHER. This is published monthly, it focuses on arts and crafts of cinematography covering domestic and foreign feature productions, short films, music videos and commercials. Even though it focuses on cinematographers, producers and directors and film makers are often featured as well.
5) SFX. This magazine is published monthly, it covers topics of popular science fiction, fantasy and horror concerning the media of films.
6) HOTDOG. This magazine is published in the United Kingdom. Over the past couple years the magazine has veered towards mainstream film press. Another notable change its cover policy; in the past they had historical or alternative characters from film. At present time however, they have a current star of the moment there instead.
7) SIGHT AND SOUND. This is a monthly British magazine. This magazine focuses on all film releases even those with limited release, opposed to nearly all other film magazines who focus on films in the general release.
8) SHIVERS. This is a UK based magazine which is dedicated to horror movies, television shows and literature.
9) STARBURST. This is a science fiction magazine. this magazine is published monthly with additional news updated daily on the website.
10) FANGORIA. This is a internationally distributed US film magazine specialising in genres such as horror, slasher, splatter and exploration films.
11) FILM JOURNAL. This is a motion picture industry trade magazine. Film Journal covers exhibition production and distribution, reporting both US and international news.
12) HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. This is an american magazine. It focuses on the hollywood motion picture, television and entertainment industries, as well as hollywood intersection with fashion, finance, law, technology, lifestyle and politics.
13) IF MAGAZINE. This is an American based magazine focusing on science-fiction. Each issue of the bimonthly magazine contains a section covering industry developments in makeup, CGI, animatronics, animation, costuming, set design, stunt effect and concept art.
14) FILM THREAT. Film Threat is an online magazine that focuses primarily on independent film, although it also reviews DVDs of mainstream films and hollywood movies in theaters.
15) LITTLE WHITE LIES. This magazine is a internationally distributed magazine. its known for its unique style of reinterpreting films through illustration changing aesthetic and style with each issue to reflect the sprit of the cover film.
16) UNCUT. This is a monthly british magazine aimed at 25 to 45 year old focusing on film and music.
17) FILM COMMENT. This magazine focuses on art and culture,it features reviews and analysis of mainstream art-house and avant grade film making from around the world. this magazine also gives out awards.
18) FILM MAKER. This is a quarterly published magazine, covering issues relating to independent films. This magazine includes interviews, case studies and distribution information, festival reports, technical and production updates.
19) ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. This is an American magazine that comes out weekly and covers film, television, music, broadway theatre, books and popular culture
20) SCREEN INTERNATIONAL. This is a multimedia film magazine covering the international film business, its published weekly, it primary aimed at people who are involved in the global movie business.
